Friday Homework: Hampton Court:

I am very excited about our trip to Hampton Court next week! It is one of the most beautiful and grand palaces in this country and I am delighted that we have the opportunity to visit and find out more about Tudor times!

The Tudors, however, were not the only royal family that lived in Hampton Court. Your homework is to find out which other monarchs (kings or queens) lived there and what information can you find out about them.

Remember: It must be written in your own words to avoid plagiarism. Capital letters and full stops are essential and please limit your exclamation marks to one per sentence. If you prefer, you can also submit this homework on paper.

Happy investigations!

  1. In 1514 , in the parish of Hampton , Thomas Wolsey , Archbishop of York began building a magnificent palace on the north bank of the River Thames. Thomas Wolsey
had water for his new palace running from Coobe Hill in Surrey through lead pipes which traveled through Surbiton to get to Hampton Court. Not much of the original building remains due to the remodeling by King Henry VIII and laer kings and Queens.
Part of the Great Hall are probably from Thomas Wolseys palace , and the structure of
Base Court looks muc like it did in his time.

  2. Queen Mary I is remembered as ' Bloody Mary' who was the Roman Catholic queen who tried to return England back to Catholicism. James I is famous for being a terrorist target and attempting to blow up Parliament. Charles I was brave, but his wife would not listen to him. Charles II was invited to come back to England to sit on his fathers throne because they needed a king. William III and Mary II are famous for reigning jointly because they were the only monarchs in British history to do so. George II is known for leading his army into battle since he was the last to do so.
